Who Was Rory
The beginning of Rory’s career in music did not just start the day he met Joey. Rory was 15 when he took guitar in his hands for the first time. He loved everything about music and in fact, even moved to Texas to pursue his passions in music. He was inspired by musicians such as Don Williams who were popular when Rory was a young boy. Rory initially wrote songs for several famous artists, and later met Joey. As a musician, Rory already began seeing success, and together with Joey, they were able to push the boundaries of their talents. Rory was married before he met Joey but his marriage did not last very long.
Who was Joey
Joey was a struggling artist when she met Rory. However, things took for the better when she met Rory at a show in Nashville. It was love at the first sight, and they had to collaborate and make music together. Joey possessed a raw music talent that is a rare thing, and it blended well with Rory’s range. The couple were married in 2002 and had a baby called Indiana in 2014.
The Start of The End
Little Indiana was born with Downs, but the condition never deterred the couple from pushing forward with their dreams and living a purpose-driven life together. Sadly, two months after the birth of Indiana, Joey was diagnosed with a cancer. The whole family was shattered, and a long road to recovery lay before them. The couple had a blog where they were wrote about their battle with cancer until March of 2016 when Joey passed away. After the death of his wife, Rory had to carry on alone. The married couple had recorded the album called Hymns before the death of Joey and it won the Grammy Award later. On the day of the award ceremony, when the pre-ceremony show was going on, there was an emotional acceptance speech that was given by Rory. During the speech, Rory said that Joey sang the vocals for their album in their hotel rooms when she was going through chemotherapy, and the album came out almost a year exactly before the Grammy pre-ceremony. They were sitting together during her final days and had watched previous year’s Grammy Awards ceremony when Joey said that if they got nominated, she wanted Rory to promise that he would go to the ceremony. Rory told her that he would go if they had a chance to fulfill her dream. Joey + Rory not only received a nomination for a Grammy Award for the Best Performance of A Country Duo/Group for their cover of the song “If I Needed You” but also won it
